*Neal's Yard (first picture) - a sweetly secret corner of Covent Garden, wedged in between some side streets. Colourful courtyard filled with naturopathic shops and vegetarian (vegan!) eats.

backpacking budget: greece

July 9th - July 22nd, 2012
Itinerary and Budget - 2 Weeks
Arrived at airport in the afternoon, caught metro to Monastiraki ΜΟΝΑΣΤΗΡΑΚΙ Station, walked over to Zeus Hostel - northbound up Athinas Αθηνάς Street approximately 5 minutes, left at Sofokleus Σοφοκλέους. Free welcome shot of raki at the sister hostel nearby, with a rooftop bar. The view was really nice, but the sister hostel seemed a little overrated and overpriced (with respect to Zeus).

zakynthos island

We arrived by ferry at the port of Zante very late in the evening, not knowing where in the world we were or where we were going to stay the night. We'd been assured that at every ferry arrival on any Greek island, locals swarm about to invite tourists to stay in their homes; so, we assumed that we wouldn't have a problem finding a place to stay for cheap. Upon arrival (at around 23:00), however, we found that the dock was completely deserted.

mystical delphi

There are no words to describe sunrise at Delphi, the abode of the oracle. Looking down into the valleys below, it truly did feel like I was on top of the world. It was a beautiful sight. Thankfully, we decided to visit the site at the crack of dawn, before the mass of tourist busses began to unload their camera-clad sightseeers, allowing us some quiet time to take in the ticklingly transcendental vibe of the area, teeming with ancient secrets.
